It is an early access game. I didn't want it to end! So much story potiential here. Also, this VN has a lot of movements--characters, frames fading into view as they tell as story. I bought this game for $9 as a "risky investment" (not that risky), with only four reviews and only one chapter out. This is a one of a kind game (so far) and I'm excited to see where it goes. I don't review a lot, but I really think people should give this story a chance and fund the devs. There's obviously a lot of care and creativity and I highly appreciate it. This is still early days but I have played chapter 1 and it took about 3 hours and I really love the look and feel of the game. I am very interested in what happens next. Although I am disappointed that you can’t save manually that you have to rely on the game saving at check points besides that the game does draw you in and I don’t usually purchase or play games that aren’t completed or write reviews but I made an exception.. I will start off by saying that I'm of two minds about this game in its current state. On one hand, I do like supporting devs whose games I enjoy, especially indie devs because the road can be really tough. On the other hand, there is not enough content (an hour at my reading speed) to justify its current price to me. The art style is unique and really gorgeous. The sound effects are very atmospheric. The backgrounds have a lot of little details that give them depth and vibrancy. What you see in the preview images is what you get – you have no save function, you cannot hide the text window, the amount of text window space seems disproportionate to the amount of text. What you don’t see – you cannot adjust text speed, there is no text history or going backwards if you click too quickly, switching between scenes (ie, when the auto-save function kicks in) can leave you with a black screen that requires reloading to progress (happened quite often for me for some reason but no one else seems to have mentioned it), so you end up replaying portions carefully when you finally realize that no amount of waiting is going to start a new scene.I know this is Early Access so these are not recommendation killers for me. I am glad to support Pink Potion in this endeavour and I hope to see it become really successful; the game looks wonderful visually, the writing is intriguing and immersive such that I can identify with Jeong. However, and this is why I’m not 100% comfortable in recommending the game in its current state, there isn’t much content for the price that you pay. I feel like the current release is more suited as a demo, and even then, I’ve played demos longer than this current released episode. I also haven’t felt the non-immediate effects of my choices, so I look forward to seeing them come back to bite my shiny bum. If content is not the main criteria that you look for, like me, this game is very much worth a try. Or maybe you'd simply like to support a budding dev. :)I will, of course, be updating this review when I have the chance to experience more content (along with the new price point), which sounds like it will be soon. \o/. Great graphics, sound effects/tracks. Setting is unusual (at least, for western), pretty dark. It's low on content (playtime is ~1-3h depending on your reading speed and if you want to see different decisions), some regular VN features are missing.Updates are taking quite a bit of time, but I cannot say, that they're not worth it. If you're wondering if it's abandoned because last update was X months ago, it's not. Devs are just prefer to tell news on their patreon. I can recommend this game but keep in mind that this is a long term investment, as I already said, there's not enough content right now. July progress update - questions and issues: Hi Yakuza Kiss players, it's time for another update on our progress!We've been working hard on chapter 02 and it's about 80% complete. To be honest, I wanted to finish it a lot sooner, but I've had some health issues that have REALLY slowed us down. This week I have barely been able to sit behind a computer. :( This is the risk of running a small team - when I'm sick - things come to a standstill. Fortunately it's nothing serious and I should be up and running soon, but I wanted to let you know what's happening, so that you aren't worried that we've just forgotten about Yakuza Kiss. This project is extremely important to me and there is no way it's not getting finished. From your comments and wonderful messages, I also know that a lot of you are waiting to see what happens next. But please be patient with us and know that as soon as I feel better things will progress much faster!Now, let's discuss the code. We've managed to make a few upgrades to the game:- AUTOPLAY/AUTOREAD: you can activate this mode and the text will progress on its own, without you having to click all the time. The game stops progressing when there is a choice to be made, but otherwise you can just sit tight and relax.We decided to start with this feature since it was one of the most requested features and also because we don't want you to hurt your fingers from all the clicking. :D - RAM OPTIMIZATION: This was not a requested feature, but we felt that it was important to optimize the game performance. We've divided the game assets into chapters and we cleanse unused assets from memory. This means that older systems will now run this game a lot smoother.We might put these updates live soon, but at the latest they will be available with chapter 02.A lot of you have requested changes to the autosave system. We are currently investigating the possibility of having manual saves. At this point it seems possible that we might be able to do this after all, but I will let you know when we have tested it out.Lastly, I have some questions for you! I've gathered your feedback and feature requests and I've listed most of them below. Please let us know what you think about them and what you would prioritize. They are all features that we will very likely add to the game, it's just a question of in which order you would like to see them added.
